Gimme 5: Oils for Littles

Essential Oils have become such an important part of my daily life and role as a mother, I honestly don't know what I would do without them. Every mom should have these tools on hand when it comes to caring for her babes and here's why:

1. They're SAFE. As long as you are using certified pure therapeutic grade essential oils or CPTG quality oils they are a safe method of care for yourself and your family.

2. They're NATURAL. Essential oils are naturally occurring volatile aromatic compounds that come from the flowers, roots, stems, leaves, and other parts of plants.

3. They're EFFECTIVE. Quality is important for this aspect to be true. High quality essential oils are highly concentrated when distilled for purity, potency, and efficacy. They can be used aromatically, internally or topically. You can read more about that HERE

Now here is my list of top 5 oils for littles:

 Lavender

Of all the oils in my home, this is the one that we go through the most quickly.  I use this oil at least once daily with my little one. Lavender has been known to be the oil of relaxation & tranquility. Here are a few ways I like to use this tranquil oil:

+Night time diffusion: Every night throughout our home we have Lavender diffusing before & during bedtime.
+A few drops in the litte's bath. We do a nightly bath as part of our bedtime routine in our home. I add 2-5 drops to my boys' bath. Yes, Lavender is a part of pretty much all things bedtime!
+Calming Spray. (Distilled water and 10-15 drops of Lavender in a small glass spray bottle.) I am a big fan of baby-carrying. I used to carry my boys EVERYWHERE in our Solly Baby Wrap Before wrapping him I would spray the wrap with the Calming Spray, then place his cute little bod in the wrap. He would fall asleep almost instantly. Making errand running and house chores a much more pleasant experience. Oh, and the spray benefited myself as well. This spray is also amazing as a pillow spray for you, babe, and really anyone in your life!
+Skin Irritations: Boo-boos are an inevitable part of childhood...Lavender is one of my go to's when babe comes crying with a bump or a scratch I reach for my Lavender roller bottle (or my Melaleuca...more on that below.)
+Teething Troubles: For my teething babe, I use my Lavender roller bottle daily. I apply to jawline, spine, and bottom of feet to soothe discomfort due to teething.

Frankincense

Frankincense is known to be "the King of oils". It has a warm, spicy aroma that I LOVE to add to just about any diffuser blend. And it's my go to for just about anything. I know, that's a little open ended. But really, I use it for everything. Seriously, skin conditions (diaper rashes, owies etc..), mood enhancer, anti-inflammatory...you name it, I always add some Frank! Frankincense has been known to have the ability to enhance the properties of other oils. (For example: throughout my son's teething I always layer lavender & teething blend with Frankincense.)

Melaleuca (tea tree)

Melaleuca (or Tea Tree oil) is best known for it's purifying properties. While I don't have a vast number of daily uses for this oil, the few purposes it does serve in my home are enough to make it top 5 material.
+All things skin. From boo-boos, to acne, to hair care, this oil is so versatile in it's uses for skin + hair care. It's an ingredient in *Baby's Bum Spray, Boo Boo spray, my nightly skin regimen, and my hair care routine.

On Guard (protective blend)

With all the yucky bugs associated with raising children, On Guard is an absolute MOTHERHOOD ESSENTIAL. On Guard is a blend of Wild Orange Peel, Clove Bud, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Leaf, and Rosemary Leaf oils. It is known to support healthy immune function and protect against environmental threats. doTERRA has such a great line of OnGuard products, I technically use this oil for SO many purposes I could have a list a mile long...but for the sake of this list I will only specify ways I use the actual oil from the bottle. Here are a few ways we use On Guard in our home:
+In the diffuser. When we're feeling a bug coming on or looking for a little extra boost in support for our healthy immune function I'll add a few drops of On Guard to the diffuser. Not only is it effective, it also smells divine!
+Roller bottle for topical application. I apply this one daily to the bottom of my son's feet to help protect against environmental threats and to support healthy immune function. He is now 15 months old and has yet to catch a bug. Coincidence? Maybe...(but I think not.)
There are seriously SO many products from the OnGuard line that I think are Motherhood Essentials to every home. Click HERE to read more on these products.

DigestZen (digestive blend)

For those of you who know my story, you know this is the oil that started it all for my family. So, I may be biased including it in my top 5...but it is an oil that I now cannot imagine life without. Because without DigestZen, I'm not sure we would have been exposed to any of these other AMAZING oils. DigestZen has a pretty solitary purpose in our home, to aid in digestion, soothe "stomach upset," and maintain overall digestive health. Here's how I like to use it:
+Roller Bottle for topical application. In a roller bottle mixed with Lemon and Fractionate Coconut oil I always have this blend on hand for my boys' tummy troubles (or my own!) I apply the the abdomen or bottom of feet.
+Add a few drops to water.  This is not a method I use daily as the taste is not my favorite...but when I'm in need of digestive aid, I add a few drops to my water GLASS and drink!

And whoop there it is. My top 5 oils for littles. Interested in learning more about essential oils, but don't know where to start!? Shoot me an email or leave a comment below and I'd be happy to help you. Sharing these tools to empower fellow mamas is one of my favorite things to do!
